- North Carolina has 74 free clinics and pharmacies serving at least 80 counties in North Carolina.
- Clinics offer an array of primary care services, chronic disease management, medication dispensing and management, and dental care. Some clinics also provide specialty care, such as cancer screening (e.g., Pap smear screening), mental health care, and vision screening.
- Clinics provided an estimated 86,060 hours of free care to low-income, uninsured, and medically under-insured people of North Carolina and neighboring states.
- The uninsured and underinsured of North Carolina made 320,589 visits to free clinics last year.
- More than $67 million in free health care services were delivered to uninsured patients by free clinics.
- 481,612 prescriptions were filled by free clinics last year.
- For every $1 of a clinic’s cash budget, volunteers and paid health care professionals provided $4.42 of free care through medical, dental, and/or pharmacy services.
